AIG United Guaranty started its expansion into Asia with the launch of Hong Kong operations in 1999, as part of a long-term reinsurance agreement with the HKMC, a government entity created to support the residential mortgage market. Today, we provide a broad range of mortgage insurance and reinsurance products through our local subsidiary, AIG United Guaranty Insurance (Asia) Limited, which was formed to provide a superior platform for our regional expansion; we are actively developing new opportunities throughout Asia to offer insurance, reinsurance, and structured credit protection.

Other than Hong Kong, we are the only licensed mortgage insurer in Taiwan, serving the market up to 95% LTV. One of our chief goals is to help Taiwan’s financial regulator ensure safety and soundness within the housing finance market. AIG United Guaranty’s Seoul office explores new opportunities in South Korea and monitors the developments in a mortgage market that has experienced exponential growth over the last five years. Together with AIG’s extensive Japanese operations, our Tokyo office focuses on developing Japan’s mortgage market, which is the largest in Asia and one of the largest in the world. Our liaison office in Mumbai is monitoring the emerging mortgage market in India, which has one of the fastest growing housing finance markets in the world.

Our business development office, based in Hong Kong, explores new opportunities throughout the region, with a current focus on China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Finally, AIG United Guaranty has formed AIG Mortgage Risk Solutions in Sydney, which strives to offer lenders new products and services providing material differentiation from our competition, thereby offering our customers a genuine alternative in Australia’s long-established mortgage insurance market.
